Traingle of Life Eathquake Survival

Although we might not have earthquake in Brunei, but there are few precautions step that we need to know if we are at our neighbouring country that experience earthquake.

Below is an article that I got from a colleague of mine and I find that it is really important for me to convey this article to you who are reading it now. Read and Learn!

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON THE "TRAINGLE OF LIFE"

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries.

I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years. I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide under something. I am amazed that even today schools are still using the ?Duck and Cover? instructions- telling the children to squat under their desks with their heads bowed and covered with their hands. This was the technique used in the Mexico City school.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Almost everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when buildings collapse ARE CRUSHED TO DEATH. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. That position helps you survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs. Concrete slab buildings are the most dangerous during an earthquake.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Almost everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads ? horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and lying in the fetal position next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul , University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did 'duck and cover,' and ten mannequins I used in my 'triangle of life' survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results.

The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions, relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

Spread the word and save someone's life... The entire world is experiencing natural calamities so be prepared!

HSBC Credit Card Dilemma

I am lucky for not being the victim of this. Few of my colleagues encountered this problem. We have our salary through HSBC and still they cut us off?

I called up the call centre just to make things clear and they make so many excuses and try avoid getting blamed. I attacked the lady(of course not physically...hehehe..) with questions! She says that they have send letter off to us to inform about the new Credit Card system. I told her we knew about this matter but why do we need to bother, knowing that our salary goes through HSBC and furthermore we never get any letter from HSBC. She keep on saying it is recorded in their system that letters have be sent off! I told her no one in the office receive any letter from HSBC. After few mins of attacking her, she confessed and told me that, I am not the only person who complaint about not receiving the letter. So I sarcastically say " So, I'm not the only person who complaint about this then??" Then she just keep quiet.

She even told me that I need to go to the bank to reactivate my card and it will only activate on 16 July 2010. But in the newspaper, they seems to deny it!! They can't even check whether I can use my card! They say their system says its active but not sure whether I can use it!!

And what annoys me is that being a well known bank, they didnt even apologise for what had happen!

There are times when I ask myself, "Why did I do that to my parents?"

It's not that I swear at them or did nasty thing to them. It's just the things that I have said and react to them make me feel guilty sometimes. For example, when my parents calls me up when I am at work and ask me things like "How come my computer cannot turn on?" or "Why my mobile phone volume so low?" or "Is that trousers in your room belong to your brother?" It really fumes me up for asking those questions knowing I am busy at work and which they can ask after work. I will answer them but with an unpleasant tone. After I hang up the phone, I always feel guilty about it.

Remember the advert during Hari Raya where the child keeps on asking his dad what is that. And his dad answer, it's a bird. And the son keeps repeating the same question over and over and his dad didn't get bored of it? And when his dad grew old, the dad ask his son a question repeated and the son got annoyed? Remember that? That advert always plays on my mind when I did that...

My parents have been putting up with me (and my siblings) from young. Teach me to be good, never tell lies (yeah!!..as if we listen to that part..hehehe..) and try their best to keep us happy, healthy and educated. They did all that and make me what I have become now.

Getting angry is a human nature but there is a limit to be angry for such a small matter. Our parents are not getting any younger. They do need our love and caring like what they have given to us since we were born until now.

Blogging In The Dark

This is the first time I blog in the dark..hehehe...

I was in Qlap around 6 to have my foot reflexology. Its my monthly thing :) Then I went to HSBC to withdraw $$$ to pay off my other credit card bills. Went to Baiduri @ Qlap. Slot the money..got the resit and PUFFFFFF...no power supply. At first I thought it was only at Baiduri, but as I get out of the bank, Qlap was almost dark beside the lights from cars.

Walk to my car and the first thing I thought is how to get out of Qlap knowing that the traffic lights will be off too! So I drove slowly and carefully knowing that there are so many ignorant and impatient driver in Brunei. Getting out from the Qlap traffic light was quite easy :) Then I head off to Gadong to pay my SCB Bill and hoping that there will be power supply!! NO POWER AT GADONG! But to my surprise, the SCB building in Gadong do have power! Knowing anything can happen, I just quickly pay off my SCB bills.

Now the next worry part. How to get out of Gadong and there are so many traffic light to pass through. As suspected, the traffic at cross junction heading to Tungku was in chaos! No police was there at that time. Cars are trying to squeeze in and there is even a car that broke down at that time! 15 mins later police came and control the traffic.

As I got home, total darkness and the elevator is not working! Have to use the stairs to get to my apartment. Good thing I have few LED lamp at home ..battery operated of course. Since I have nothing muc to do and good thing my laptop still have some power in it and also with the help of my mobile broadband. I am able to go online...yahoooo...but not for long...my laptop battery only have 30mins left!

So this is how I look like in the dark! Scary eh!! hehehe

I wonder when will the power be back on! I heard it's going to be as worst as the January Flood!

Wow...It's been over 2 months since I update my blog..Malu eh..hehehe

I think I update my sale blog more frequent than my personal blog. Just got too many things to sell. Even friends offer to advertise their stuffs on my sale blog!

Let me see what had happen for the past 2 months. on 4 September 2009, my niece turn 2 :) It was a nice one with few kids around running here and there. Really make the house more merrier. You can add me on Facebook using richardckp@gmail.com ^_^

My sister in law will be off to UK to further her study on 24 September 2009. And I few friends too who are flying off to UK to do their Master & PHD.

A friend's wife passed away suddenly early this month. It was qute a shock for me when I receive a sms from a friend. Condolence to him and his family.

NBT have put up festival decoration for Hari Raya! Finally...Eversince they start the festive decoration since 2006, I guess, lots of people flocking there to take photos! Unfortunately there were no decoration on last Christmas and Chinese New Year. I heard that they are ut of budget for the decoration.

I think that's all I can think for now...More to come soon...I hope...hehe

Ever since I finish my A Level at Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, I have lost touch with most of my close friends and gang. With the help of Facebook and from there on, I managed to contact most of my friends from school.

Today, with the arrangement by DJ Enny of Pilihan, we manage to meet up with two of our closes friends. We had our lunch at Charcoal. I have not met them for over a decade and it was so great to see them again. As soon as we start talking, it feels like we have never lost touch. We are just like what and who we are over 10 years ago....beside us gaining some kgs over the years..hehe

We had a good chat and talk about the past. What we have done during our time at MDPMAMB. And seriously, I forget some of the moment that had happen...hehehe...need to upgrade my memory..hehe

Before we left, we have decide to make another reunion with some of our gang and friends in September! I hope that I can contact most of them although there are few that I try not to contact.

The Long Wait Have Arrived

After a long wait for my new toy...FINALLY it arrived yesterday and just can't get my hand off it...!!

I'm not sure how many people have own this but the Dell agent in Brunei told us that this is the first two set that they ordered in to Brunei. This computer is a DELL Studio One Touch 19". It's a touch screen computer. What make me decide to buy this computer is after the computer exhibition at The Mall where I saw an Asus touch screen computer. I was so tempted to buy at that time but after finding out it is just an Atom processor, that puts me off abit and there is a limit in touch function. Later in the office, my colleague told me that Dell have a touch screen computer as well! I look through and here you are! I OWN ONE! hehehehe...it's a fun computer ^_^

I was in Kota Kinabalu from 12 June to 14 June 2009. It has been awhile since I travel with my parents. If I am not mistaken and can remember well, my last holiday with my parents was in 1994 or 1995 in KK too..hehehe

A week before our trip, I have made a booking for 2 rooms at Courtyard Hotel which is located at 1Borneo. The main intention to KK is to visit 1Borneo which Bruneian talk about these days. All this story about 1Borneo really makes me really tempted to step my foot there. I actually do not mind sharing a room with my parents but the main reason why I decide to get my own room is because of my dad’s snoring! It’s unbelievable! Hehehe….

We left home around 5am on 12 June 2009. We were a bit worried that there might be a long queue at Kuala Lurah post because of school holiday! To our surprise, we hardly see any car queuing there. That makes our journey really smooth beside following few heavy vehicles along the road to KK.

We got in to KK around 2pm. We checked-in and make our way to the hotel. My room was 348 and parents’ room was 350.

Finding the rooms was a nightmare. There isn’t any proper signage to the room. We made a few wrong turn and eventually found our room. To start the power in my room, I need to slot the card key into the power slot. DOESN’T WORK! Called the reception and got the card replaced. Put my things in the room and then went to my parents room. As I enter my parents’ room, the first thing I asked them was “DID YOU GUYS JUST FINISH USING THE TOILET??!..IT STINKS!!” Parents say they didn’t. So I called the reception and request them to clean the toilet again!
We wander around 1Borneo and YES it is a big mall! Lots of branded shops. It’s not the shop that I will go for though. Branded stuffs don’t do anything for me. Prefer nice and cheap shirt or jeans. Took few photos and videos. After wandering around for an hour, I found that, there isn’t anything special about it. It’s just like any other Mall. I think Gadong Mall is way better than them despite the size of course. We spend 3 hours at the Mall and later head back to our room.

Went in to my parents room and it still stinks!! It must be their drainage that causes it..YUCK! My parents were later moved to another room. Smell ok but the air-con wasn’t working! Call the technician and got it fixed.

We went to a seafood restaurant called Gaya Seafood Restaurant at Inanam. Parents ordered fish, crab, lobster, vegetables and rice. The food are reasonably good and it cost us RM253!

After finsih our dinner, we head back to the hotel and had a good rest. Of all the hotel that I have stayed before, somehow this hotel makes me sleep very well throughout the night without waking up in the middle of the night....until dad woke me up by calling my room's phone! The bed was really good and they provide two type of pillow. One pillow is rather hard and the other one is soft. Just perfect for me.

Breakfast was ok. Love the porridge and salted eggs. Yummmyyyy...

After breakfast, we headed off to a car workshop cos my dad need to purchase the hose for his Pajero. Got the stuffs and then we went to Centrepoint. There we split and agreed to meet at the ground floor in 3 hours time. Manage to get few cloths, telephone accessories and Liver Oil (gulp).

Later at 4pm, we went to Penampang where my dad’s old friend stays. It’s one of those thing that they do when they go to KK. I thought they are going to stay there for few hours and who knows it turn out to be a long chit chat session! We stayed till 11pm! There goes my Fish Spa which I intended to do at 1Borneo!

When we got back to the hotel, I called up the Bellboy to send my dad to the parking lot. Been doing that since we arrived there on 12 June. As I got in to my room, my dad called on my mobile phone to tell me that the lift going to the hotel is not working. So I called up the reception to assist my dad. This is how our conversation sounds like with the Male Receptionist:

Me: Hi. My dad is on the 2^d Floor parking area where your bellboy sends him and now the lift is not working. Can you ask someone to assist my dad and bring him down?”

Reception: Oh! That lift not under our management lah!!

Me: Ah huh?! So can you get someone to assist my dad down cos he is there alone and don’t know how to get down!”

Reception: So what you want me to do? You tell me lah!

Me: Are you asking me a question??!! I suppose to ask you that question!! (Pissed off)

Reception: I will pass you to the Bellboy!

I talked to the bellboy and he explains how to go the 2nd floor parking. I was so disappointed with them. Don’t they care about their guest safety?! I went down and then try to find my way to the 2^nd floor parking area. Later dad called and says he is in the room already. So I told him what happen and he just listens. Later I found out that dad went to the reception and scold the hell out at the receptionist!

Just before we check out on 14 June 2009, I made the same complaint and told them our disappointment. At that time as well, my dad’s Bruneian friend who stayed there came to the counter with an unpleasant voice! He was pointing to his 6 month old Honda which was dent from back to the passenger seat! The reception called the bellboy who drove the car the night before and he deny it! The commotion continues and we left and head back to Brunei.

To summarise my trip, I enjoyed my trip to KK but my advice to those who wants to stay at Courtyard Hotel, please consider before making up your mind up!

Long Weekend at Labuan

Sorry for not updating my blog for quite a while. Nothing much to update really but I did have a nice weekend away from Brunei.

I went to Labuan with few friends. Did 'a bit' of shopping there!! and also had some detoxification evening...you know what I mean...if you do not know...then susah lah! hehehe

We use taxi alot in Labuan cos there were this particular friends who prefer to use taxi rather than walking. So in all the taxi that we hop in, we found one particular taxi that's really unique! He basically stick alot of coins from different countries on his car's dashboard and steering wheel.

Returning back to Brunei was a nightmare! The ferry Seri Anna was fully occupied and the air-con was not cool enough and I was sweating!! When we reached Brunei, it was unbelievable to see so many and I do mean many Malaysian queue at the non-Brunei passport counter. But it's good to know that we are getting more tourist to Brunei.

Oh..I was stab in the head before entering the immigration....with a thermometer :) hehehe...It's meant to check for A H1N1..was a bit worried that they might stop me cos I have a cold at that time but luckily I got through :)

I had an enjoyable weekend. Lots to tell but I prefer to keep it to myself..hehehe

One of my hamsters gave birth to 7 babies on 13 February 2009 and unfortunately 4 died. She is a first time mother. Then the next day, another hamster gave birth too! Another 7 babies!! And this time all survive cos this hamster have gave birth 3 times and the first time she gave birth, she ate all her babies. That is very common.

Today is the 7th day of Chinese New Year and our plan was to head down to Kuala Belait to visit few relatives and also my brothers.

The weather was fine when we left Muara although it was a bit gloomy. Just as we about to leave, my aunt from Kuala Balai called us up and say that we can't go to their place today as their area was flooded to knee height!

Our first stop was at our Lumut house. Obviously we are not there to celebrate CNY..hehe..was there to take some photos of the house as it is vacant and need to rent it out. I was really shock to see the state of the house! It was once a nice, tidy and clean house and once we rented it out to construction contractor, the house look so run down and need lots of work!!! Damn tenants!! Anyway, once everything was done, we head off to my brother's place in KB. On the way there, the rain start to pour..HEAVILY!! It was so heay that we can hardly see the road..and some of the road heading to my brother's place was flooded! Good thing that dad drove his 4 wheeler.

When we leave KB at around 5pm, it was still raining and surprisingly it was dry in bandar! But then later, it started to rain in bandar too..hehehe. I manged to snap some photos of the flood in KB.

Chinese New Year is here!! We welcome the year of Ox, Cow, Niu, Goo, Lembu..whatever and however you want to call it and we say good bye to the sneaky Rat!

We didn't have a good start of 2009 where we face heavy rain, flood, so many accident in January, 2 death from the horrifying flood...so I hope and pray that, with the start of the Chinese New Year, the Year of OX, things will be better and improve.

In Chinese believes that, in every Chinese New Year one must wear new cloths, shoes and so on...welll..if u are thinking of wearing new underwear, by all mean...hehehe...BUT there is always a last minute thing that we need to do..or should I say ME!!!

There were few last minute things I did before Chinese New Year! Two days before CNY, I went around Brunei town to look for new trousers and shoes! I think I am quite choosy when it comes to clothing. I was in Singapore last month and didn't get any cos it's too expensive! And I was in Miri 2 weeks before Chinese New Year and I didn't get any new trousers or shoes! I normally get all my stuffs well ready before CNY...Prob this OX year wants me to teach me a lesson by not doing things in the last minute and make me work hard to look for the stuffs I want. I manage to get only one pair of jeans and a pair of new shoe at BATA!

On the nite of Chinese New Year's eve, we pray at 12am and then head off to the Chinese Temple at Muara. There are quite a few people there but I'm sure there were more people at the Temple at Bandar.. I did take a few photo of the activities on Chinese New Year's eve and on 1st day of CNY...I will upload it in a bit...just be patient....hehe

Weird? It's Getting Weirder!!

Like what I say in my previous post that people, weather and the lifestyle is getting weird! Last night, I experience the weirdest and see the most scary sight that I have ever seen!

As most of you know, the weather was really bad last nite. It was raining when I leave the house at 8 ish and thinking that the rain will stop soon. Went to Yayasan, the rain get heavier. Later went for supper with friends at Qlap and it was still raining! After supper, I decide to go home knowing that the rain getting heavier and don't see that it will stop!

Normally I will drive along the Kiulap-Gadong roundabout to go home, but last night I decide to drive along Jalan Gadong to go home. While driving, I enjoy driving pass the pool of water on the road and see the water splashing clearing the dirt on my car! But as soon as I got near to the Gadong Police Station, I did not like what I see! The road was flooded and cars stopped in front a big pool of water. The road was flooded and I can see water gushing out from the Police Station main gate! I stayed there for almost 10 mins when the car in front decide to drive through the flood! After that, I drove through the flood and a 4-wheel-drive car from the opposite side drove through the flood quite fast and I can see the wave made by that car coming towards me and splash on my car! I was so worried that my car will stop and luckily it didn't!

After passing through that horrified flood, I thought the nightmare is over....as I drove towards Jln Beribi, a long queue of cars stopped along the road! I was like..."OH MY GOD..Not another one!!!" I was stuck on the road for almost 3 hours and as cars started to move and I get closer to my place, I saw the road was flooded and on my left side, I saw cars that parked along the road was covered with water!! I managed to snap some photos but not a good one..At least you can get an idea how deep it is.

I was hoping that I will have a good start of the New Year with my new resolution and so on! It turn out that i Still have a good start of the year...hehehe... despite the weird thing that have happen to me from 010109. Let me list down some of the weird thing....

1. Weird People (Let's call this person 'X')
Sometimes when you thought that you really know that person, please do follow your instinct!! What you thought is true!

I have a friend whom I chatted with me quite often. We swear and talk rudely at each other for fun like no other people business...hehehe... Knowing that we like to chat in a funny way, at time X will make a statement why do I chat so rudely. It can get very confusing sometimes! Well, I told X that I can be polite and you wont like it! Sometimes the chat causes "argument". So when I ask "Why u sound so angry"..and then the answer is always "....where got angry!.." which in the actual fact X is angry but in denial!! And sometimes X make some statement which really irritating and disgusting! When I told X off, X starts to get angry! Very Weird.....

2. Weird Weather
The weather wasn't that good since the start of the New Year. It have been raining for almost everyday! Flood everywhere! Accident Everywhere!! In the recent news, there are over 50 car accident for just the first week of 2009!

Last night, I was out and about with friends. The weather seems fine. Was walking and the next thing I know, it start pouring and very strong wind! I think the weather in Brunei and other countries in this region is unpredictable! It will rain whenever it wants!

3. Weird Lifestyle
Do you realise that the teenagers and youngster nowadays are getting more daring when it comes to clothing and hairstyle! I was shocked and can't believe my eyes that I come across youngster wearing a Gothic costume and walk around town!

And I saw this person walking around with a winter scarf around his neck in Brunei in a hot day!! C'mon, this is Brunei! You don't need that! If it's a fashion..do it sensibly and don't make yourself look stupid!

I have seen guys with Mohawk hairstyle but this year itself I saw more guys with Mohawk hairstyle walking around town! Why do their parents allow their son to have such hairstyle? We are from the Asian Country...Act and Behave like one! Don't bring those unwanted western style over and encourage the younger generation to follow it!

People change, Country developed and few other things that will change in our lifetime but please do change in a good way. We have seen so much things happen to other countries and we should be glad that we are living in a country call Brunei Darussalam.

Gloomy Tuesday Morning

To be honest, the weather in Brunei is so unpredictable nowadays. I like the wet weather cos it really cool down the hot weather we are facing now. BUT I hate the wet weather when I just clean and polish my car 2 days ago!

Normally I don't bother to wash my car cos of the unpredictable weather. Since it's the beginning of the year and going back to work, I don't want to have a dirty car full of dust and bird droppings on my car!! DAMN YOU Sparrow!! Stop shitting on my car!!...oppppsss.....hehehe..... I just hate it when I see my car full of bird dropping! There are just too many sparrow nesting at my place....

Tonight I will be staying at my parents just to look after the house since they are enjoying their cruise around Malaysia and Bangkok....

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year is just less than 3 weeks! WOW!! And the OX will be here to get rid on the RAT! ....best to do that cos there are just too many "RAT" running around in Brunei and cause too much problem!

It's About Time To Say Goodbye

Looking back to my blog dated 27 September 2008, I mentioned about my parrot fish and Oscar fish that have died and I left with 2 Oscar fish. Ever since the death of the fish, the 2 Oscar fish that live acted differently. They are not as active as before. I presume they are just like human who feel sad and mellow after their close ones passed on.

A few weeks after the death of my fish, one of the Oscar look weak and basically just stay at the bottom of the aquarium and do very minimal movement. The other Oscar is ok but not as active. 2 days ago, the Oscar that just stayed at the bottom of the aquarium is getting weaker!! It will stay up for a bit and then lie down.

I'm not sure how long will it live...I have put some medication in the water and hope it will get better otherwise..it's time to say goodbye...

Earliest Blog Ever

This is the first time in my blogging life that I blog so early in the morning. I actually got up at 6am and get ready to send my parents to the airport as they are off to Singapore to join the Star Cruise for 5 days.

Now, i just finish my breakfast and feel so lonely at my parents' place now. So quiet....hehehe.... BUT it's the best time to sleep without any interruption by anyone..hehe

Tonite, i will be off to a chinese restaurant for a "quack quack" dinner. My friend from KB is treating us and she is so tempted to eat duck! So I have two places in my mind....not sure which one to go yet!

After dinner we are planning to go for Karaoke ^_^ Gosh...it have been so many months that I have been to a karaoke place. I used to go to my favourite karaoke place but eversince they changed the DJ, I stop going there as i don't really like the 'NEW' DJ.

Anyway..going to continue my sleep now......

We have been waiting for the new year to arrive and now it is here! Today is already the second day of 2009 and in a few days time, I will be back to work again. I am hoping that this year will bring me more confident to myself, work and anything that I do.

It was a quiet new year celebration for me. Knowing my parents will be celebrating alone this year, so I decide to accompany them. I brought them for dinner at Golden Leaf. Quite surprisingly there aren't many people in there. So I let my parents to order the food as I am hopeless in ordering chinese food.

The food arrived and as usual, I have my mom to rate the food. The food wasn't really that good. I agree with my mom rating this time. The taste of the food was quite plain but we still finish the food..hehehe...

After dinner, we went home and watch the 'LIVE' telecast of the chinese singing competition in Taiwan and did the countdown at home with my parents and my eldest brother and his wife who return home after a wedding dinner. Somehow I feel that this year is really quiet and a quiet start of the new year.

Although I celebrated New Year with parents this year, but I did a Pre-New Year celebration with two of my closest friends..and also belated birthday makan makan for me and my friend. We had grilled food and one of my friends were in the kitchen doing some mushroom and vegetable :) Taste good.

Part of Growing Up

As day goes by, we learn new things. It can be by clicking of a button on a computer keyboard that will create a shortcut to a certain function, it can be getting to know new people and make new friends and lots more....

For me, from the beginning of this year till today, I have encountered alot of things in my life..there are good and bad but more to the good side :)

Let me run through what had happen to me this year....

Good Part

As of 1 April 2008, I have been working with the same company for 4 years with nice colleagues and understanding boss :) (kes mengampu lah tu...hahahaha)..Seriously, do you think I will stay in this company if I can't get along with my colleague and boss??

I was at Sydney in May, Auckland in November and Singapore in December...Free of charge...paid by the company....hehe..I was in Sydney and Auckland for training and work in Singapore for a week :)

My niece turning 1 year old in September and we had it at Rizqun Coffee House. She is getting naughtier each day and thats the fun part of it. When you get angry with her and then she start to smile and make funny faces, all the angriness in you just disappear immediately..hehehe..That's the power of baby eh...

Went to Labuan with my usual group of friends after a year being sober...oppppssss...hehehe

Went to a costume birthday party for the first time. I dress as a modern fat dracula with white makeup on my face! hehehe.. I was the MC for that party and I didn't have my make-up for long cos I just cant stand it and wipe it off and transform myself to ..... ME

Bought myself a Nokia N95 8GB early this year and loving it so much! It really help me to move around Auckland and Singapore so easily without getting lost! I'm very bad with my direction. I can go in to a shop and then don't know which direction to go out!

Bought myself a new 32" Sony Bravia LCD TV and HDMI DVD Player. When this two things connect and WOW!!! the picture were so amazing..... sakai lah tu...hehehe

BAD THING

There are only two bad things that had happen to me this year....i think...

1. My car of 4 years finally disfigured after a minor car accident at GIANT! I was reversing my car out of the parking and this car from the other side of the parking reverse at the same time and BANG! Got out of my car and saw the dent and crack backlight! And the frustrating part is that, there isn't a single scratch on the car that hit me!!

2. 3 Parrot Fish and 1 Oscar fish which I have for over a year died after a power failure at my place. I was at my parents place at that time and when I return home the next day, I was so sad to see my lovely red parrot fish floating!

You will never what will comes ahead of you..let it be good or bad, that is already part of life and growing up.

What Did I Do Since 1 December 2008?

December is here and the time just passes by so fast...and there are few things that I have this year seems like it only happen few days ago!

I have been so busy since the first December until today and I'm sure more to come next week...sigh...

Anyway...So little thing happen to me over such a long period of time between 1 Dec till 12 Dec 2008. From 1 Dec until 7 Dec 2008, I was in Singapore for a business trip. Working in Singapore is not easy eh... Everything are in fast track and I finish work around 6ish for almost everyday! And when I get back to the hotel, the first thing I do is to take shower! It's really humid in Singapore! Put work aside, I really enjoy shopping there and love the Christmas decoration! When I say shopping...I mean window shopping..hehe.. The things there are reasonably cheap and since Christmas is just few days away, the shopping mall are packed with people!! I went to Takashimaya and that mall was packed with people!! I think I can see the whole population of Brunei in that MALL! Gosh.....I do enjoy my stay there and manage to snap few nice Christmas deco....

Back to Brunei and went to work on Tuesday. I didn't even have the time to have a cup of coffee when I reach work and straight off for a meeting. And another meeting in the afternoon. The next day..another meeting in the morning and then afternoon! Then today, meeting in the morning and meeting in the afternoon! That's what I call "M I B" hehehe...

Oh..last night I went to watch the Premier for Cicak II and manage to take photo with the lead actor and director of that movie! I didn't go hysterical though..hahahaha...nothing to be hysterical anyway. But it is good to be able to take photo with artis and this is my first time to take photo with artis!!

Will put up more photos of my trip in Singapore later ah.....

Was worried that the things inside the container might pop out and thrown out! How can this container be on the road of Brunei?!

I went to Miri with few of my friends. This is another group of friends. Hehe...I have different group of friends for different activities! This group of friends is the "SOBER" type of friends. hehehe...

We tried one of the new kopi tiam in Miri. It was quite good and the food is not bad as well..BUT ... portion is quite small..hehe..It's good for those who are not a big eater.

Lazy Mood Is Back!

It's been almost a month since I update my blog! So lazy eh! Why like this kan?! Why so lazy??!! Tell me!! tell me!!! hehehe

I have been tight up with work and also designing our company calendar! I have finish the desktop calendar and now trying hard to absorb as much idea as possible to create our company's poster calendar! It's not an easy task! Glad that the desktop calendar came out nice and so glad that my boss was happy with it.

Anyway...I hope to update my blog soon! I have so much to tell but.....

Back In Brunei And BANG!!

Glad to be back to Brunei although the heat is not to my favour! Didn't get much from Auckland at all. Just a small souvenir for few close friends.

The next day, I went to Giant to do my grocery shopping. Bought quite a lot since I was away for almost a week and really need stocking up my fridge. After my shopping, went to the car, start my engine, put in reverse gear and suddenly BANG! My car shook abit..and then I realise that my car got knocked by another who is reversing at the same time!

My heart was pounding so fast cos this is the first time my car got kissed by another car! I went out of the car and at first I looked at the other guy's car and can't see a single dent. And when I looked at my car, I was speechless....look at the pic..

It might look just a small dent but for a car which never had an accident and for me, it's a major dent and the light is broken :( It will cost me a lot of $$$ to repair all this.

Anyway...I decide to call the police as the other guy just kept quiet and agree with what I wanna do. The police came and then advise me not to do police report cos at the end of the day, both of us will be charged guilty. So it's either we want to pay the fine on top of the repair or just to pay the repair. So I decide to settle this among the two of us. After the police left, the other guy just kept quiet and I don't even dare to ask him to pay as it's both our fault. So I decide to settle this by myself.

Went back home and then I decide to push the dent part out...and guess what..it pop out so easily! That really show how thin Lexus body is :( I didn't have the tools to push out the 'bone' of the dented part.

The next day I went to my parents place and my dad say he can fix the problem :) So left the car there and drove my dad's Pajero to work. When I got back from work, I was so glad to see that my dad manage to push the dented body out and align with the bumper. There are still dent lines but who cares...! My dad glued the back light. I am still looking for a 2nd hand back light if anyone who have a friend or relative selling it..please do contact me. It's good to keep a spare knowing the one I have now is cracked. So basically, I don't have to spend anything for my car although it doesn't look as good as before :( This is the outcome....

I am planning to get it fix when I decide to re-paint my car. Both the front and back bumper's paint are fading :( So, I rather spend at one go rather than bit by bit. Was quite sad to see the dent in the car but it's a lesson to me to be more careful when reversing my car!

Fourth & Fifth Day in Auckland

Today is the last day of our training! Finally it's all over...hehe..

Let me tell you what we did yesterday and today.

Yesterday, the training started a bit late..it was 9 am that we start the bootcamp. The training was quite fun and on that night we had a group dinner at the city. I can't remember the name of the restaurant...oppsss....I had New Zealand Oyster for starter :) Then I have NZ Beef steak for my main course...although I'm not suppose to eat beef for certain reason..hehe...what the heck...I'm in NZ! We really enjoy the dinner with wine and beer. I wish Brunei have restaurants like in NZ! I'm not saying Brunei doesn't have good restaurant but its the service and decoration of the restaurant that really impress me..

After dinner, we went to an Irish bar! As soon as we enter the bar, a big Unbelievably Good Looking Young tall lady came to one of my OZ colleague and ask if he wanted to dance!! We were like laughing at him cos he got picked by a Unbelievably Good Looking Young tall lady...U get what I mean! hehe...Got back to the motel about 11pm and I have to get up at 8.30am the next day!

This morning, it was a relaxing day as it's the last day of the bootcamp. The funny bit is that, when the speaker were doing presentation, the speaker will hint about the Unbelievably Good Looking Young tall lady and everyone starts laughing.

We finish the bootcamp around 1 and everyone say goodbye to each other! Now I am waiting for 1:45am for the taxi to pick me up and send me to the airport...My flight is at 4am! It's really a weird time to travel...

Second & Third Day In NZ

Weather here is colder! It's cloudy now though. Nothing much happening yesterday cos it was a long day training and got so tired! Went to bed early last night and surprisingly I woke up at2 am and cant sleep! So I decide to go online and bore myself to sleep! Finally manage to sleep around 3!

Today, it was quite relaxing. The training finish at 4pm. I am going for a dinner tonite with my ex colig from Brunei who is now working in Auckland. It's good to meet an old friend. Tomorrow I will be meeting another ex-colig of mine. Looking forward to that. While killing my time, I decide to stay in and update my blog cos got someone complaint already why no update one! hehe...U know who u are. While updating my blog I'm listening to Pilihan on air too! hehe...

Anyway, nothing much to report today. Hope more to write tomorrow :)

Auckland, NZ - First Day

This is my second trip to New Zealand. The last trip was 4 years ago. Left Brunei at 11.15am and got in to Auckland at 3:30am (Auckland Time) which is 5 hrs ahead of Brunei.

When I was in Brunei airport, I have to wait for almost 45 mins just to get my ticket approved. What happen is the seat were fully booked and my name wasn't on the list! I was so furious and speechless wondering how this thing can happen! The lady at the counter seems to be a new staff as she keep on asking her colleague sitting next to her. After a long wait, I finally got a boarding pass. Got in the plane, and first time in my life, I was given the seat which located at the end of the plane. When I say end of the plane, I mean the last row and behind me was the toilet! It was quite annoying to have people passing by me and the disgusting bit is when you can hear then flushing the toilet...Uuuurrrgggghhhhhh.... Ah well..the good thing is that I don't have to walk so far for the toilet.

Got in to Auckland at 3:30am and it took about 30mins by taxi to the motel i'm staying. As I enter my room, I was quite amazed with what they have in the room. Look at the picture below and you will know why.

This morning I have a wander around. I walk from the motel to Newmarket which took about 1 hr walk. I love walking and with the weather now which is cool that make me enjoy the walk more. Didn't get anything but manage to visit the War Memorial Museum and took some photos.

Not A Good Start Of The Weekend

I have been staying at my parents place for the past few days cos they are away so I'm taking care of their place. Today, I decide to return to my place and as I enter my place, I smell something bad and got shock to see my fishes are dead :(

I have 4 parrot fish, 3 Oscar fish and 3 Sucker fish in one big aquarium. When I look at the aquarium, all my parrot fish died and 1 of my Oscar fish died. I was really upset to see the fish that I have been feeding for the past two years dead. I had the fish when they were small little fish. THe reason the fishes died is because there weren't any power supply going to the air pump! It must have been dead for few hours! Luckily I manage to take few photos of the fish last week...and now they are gone..sigh...

Then I have to drive down to KB to renew my car insurance and that took me about 1.5 hours before it's my turn. Then went to the Land Transport to have my car inspect before they can issue a new road tax for me. The wait was crazy!! There were so many people and I waited for almost 2 hours before I manage to get my car inspect by the officer!

Once it's done, I went to my friend's place to give some Hari Raya goodies. By then it was already 12.15pm! Since I have not been to KB for awhile since my family move to Bandar, I have a drive around the town. Then I remember about the house that was burnt down which killed few people in there but unfortunately, it has been cleared :(

I head to WyWy restaurant for my lunch :) Not many people there and good thing I brought my laptop with me so that I wont get bored eating alone..hehe.. After lunch I decide to take some picture of The Billionth Barrel Monument. Only saw a family wandering around there and I think they were more amazed with the flowers there rather than the monument...hehehe..

After that, I head back to Bandar and as soon as I got home, I quickly drain the aquarium and fill it with fresh water for the remaining fishes.

This week I will be busy auditing our client on a system they are using as part of our project. Auditing is not a fun job to do! You can either be the favourite auditor or the client's nightmare!! hehe

Today, I went to 3 sites with a colleague to audit our client's staff. The audit went well but when we reach to the 3rd site, I got the shock of my engineering life!! This has nothing to do with the audit though but coincidentally this shocking event happen at the 3rd site! Look at the photo below and you will know why! For those who don't have any engineering background will think it's crazy too!

So what do you think? Is this right? It really look horrible and unacceptable! The reason why they have this bracing on is to support the retaining wall opposite the flat! I'm really not sure how safe it is though. Although I saw lots of crack on the wall and also plastering! Scary!!

P.U.J.A Interview

It has been awhile since I have any interview. I remember the last time I had an interview was applying for a job which I am working for now..hehe...and that was like 4.5 years ago. WOW...

Told my friends that I am going for interview and obviously they will ask..

"What interview ah?!"

"Job interview kah?!"

"Why? U dun like ur job now ah?!"

I gave each of them different answers....hehe... like

"Oh! I'm quitting my current job and applying for the government"

"I'm applying for Australia PR loh"

And they believe what I have told them. They even wish me luck on that! hehe...But hey, that's what friends are for eh...being supportive!

But in the actual fact, I went for the PUJA interview. To be a member of PUJA, they need to interview you first before qualifying yourself as a PUJA member. If I tell my friends that I went for PUJA interview, they will start asking...

"What is PUJA?"

Most of my friends are not in the engineering field, so they wont know anything about PUJA, so thats why I made up all those story to them..hehe

I was asked to attend the interview at 9.30am and I arrived at MOD at 8.45am. I prefer to be early rather than on time or late. When I arrived there, I was shocked to see 3 of my colleagues still waiting outside for the interview and they are suppose to be interviewed at 8.30am! One of my colleague even jokingly asked me to come back after lunch...hehehe

So when it's my turn for interview at 10.30am, I was a bit nervous but after sitting down, the three person who interviewed me was friendly and nice. That make me more relax and easy to talk to.

It turn out well and just hope to get the certificate soon.

Inhumane Act Towards Dog in Brunei

I was browsing through few local blogs and I was shocked to see the video that was in David Cheok's website. I manage to get his permission to link this video that he created and published in his blog.

How inhumane can people be in doing such a cruel thing to innocent dogs!! I know there were two cases that was reported where children were mauled by stray dogs. But by killing the animals doesn't help to solve the problem. Moreover if the dogs that were killed wasn't a stray dog and owned by someone.

After watching the video, you will get a rough idea who killed the dogs and do they have the rights to do that. Why does the innocent dogs have to be the victim? Imagine if the person who killed these dogs, own a cat and killed in the same way...how would he feel?!

The dogs have their own life! They do think, they do obey, they have family, they have friends...and lots more...they are just like us!

Happy Birthday To Baby Chloe

Wow...It's already 4 September 2008 and I can clearly remember what happen today a year before. I was in the office working and my sister is in the labour room waiting to deliver a new additional to the family. It was really a long wait for her though. She was admitted to the hospital at wee hours of the morning. Around 2pm, I receive a call from my dad saying that my sister have given birth to a baby girl. I was so excited but can't do much as I have to work till 4:30 before I can leave the office.

As usual I have my camera ready with me since I know my sister will be giving birth on that day. Every picture that was taken on that day in the hospital brings back a lot of happy memory. It was my first time to see a new born baby from my siblings. And I can see the glow in my parents face to welcome their first grandchild and my first niece.

Look how innocence and cute she is. Big round eye and red cheek.

And today, she turn one and we had a birthday party for her at Rizqun International Hotel Coffee House for High-Tea on 31 August 2008. We invited relatives and few friends for the party. But earlier that day, we have few activities for Chloe.

Firstly, each of her Uncles gave her "Ang-Pow" and gift. For those who doesn't know what "Ang Pow" is, it is basically a red envelope with money inside it. I gave "Ang Pow" to Chloe and doesn't seem to interest her..hehe..She doesn't know what money is for...FOR NOW!

The next activity is consider a traditional thing to do for Hokkien people when a baby reach 1 year old. There will be few items put on the floor like pencil, calculator, wrench and anything. Then the baby will be let to crawl or even walk to the items and the first item that the baby took will be assumed as what the baby's career will be in the future.

So we did the same thing for Chloe. Without hesitation, she did her semi crawl and walk to the items. I will let the pictures below do the talking.

So at the end, she went for the ruler and pencil. After she got bored of it, she decide to take all of the items on the floor beside the weighing machine..I wonder why..hehe

Rare Partial Lunar Eclipse

Read the newspaper and saw an article regarding "Rare Partial Lunar Eclipse". First thing that came to my mind is to stay up and take picture of it :) Since I'm trying to improve my night photography skills, so I thought taking the photo of eclipse will be a challenge. It's not an easy task to do though.

I tried to sleep early but failed to do so! So I waited till 3.35am where the upper left limb of the moon starts to darken. So here it is..

Firework at Serasa - A disappointment

Another firework shooting to the clear sky tonight at Serasa Beach in conjunction with His Majesty 62nd Birthday. The public were informed that the firework start at 8.30pm.

Firstly, we decide where is the best location to see the firework. We prefer not to go to the beach cos we know it will be fully packed. So we decide to go near the Ferry Terminal. Thinking that not many people will go there, we were shocked to see people have been parking their car along the road!

We went round to look for parking and eventually found one. We find a nice spot to see the firework and to take picture of the firework. We waited and waited and nothing can be seen on the sky except for few stars and half moon.

Time strike 8:30pm and nothing! Time strike 8:45pm and nothing!! Time strike 9:01pm and BOOM BOOM BOOM...we were looking around where the firework is and we can't see it properly as there is a building blocking it!! So we walk further up and manage to see wee bit of the firework!

Manage to snap few pictures as I wasn't impress with the location where I took the picture.

Going home is a nightmare!! People just cutting queue! Well, we do enjoy the firework although we hardly can see the beauty of it.

WOW!! What a lovely number isn't it? So what do you think that number represent? As far as I know the number 8 is a lucky number among the Chinese like me :)

But the most important event that will happen on 080808 is the Olympic which will be held in China today! It is said to be the biggest sports show on earth! More ironic is that the opening ceremony of the Olympic in China will be at 8pm. There are lots of eight used for this event! hehe.. Can't wait to watch the opening later!I'm sure there will be few love birds in Brunei who will miss the Olympic opening ceremony as they will be walking along the aisle for the start of their new life as husband and wife. According to the news that I read few weeks ago that most of the popular restaurant and hotel in Brunei are fully booked for their wedding ceremony. And there will be one couple that I heard that, their wedding will be on 08 08 08 and also start at 8 pm.

I will not be surprise if there are many chinese mother gave birth today!

Happening Sunday

It was quite a boring Sunday when me and my friends decide to do something rather than sitting at home and do nothing.

Then my friend remembers that there is a "Pesta Pantai" at Muara Beach. So we got ready and making our way there. While enjoying sitting as a passenger in my friend's car, I look at the sky and guess what, the sky turned dark and started to rain! But hey, there were so many activities happening on that day..so we divert our venue to Tutong for the Agro-Fruit Festival ^_^.

We were listening to Kristal FM and DJ Dean was on air. He was asking the listener to sms him with the weather condition at where we are. So I sms and told him about the weather and also where are heading. He mentioned that on air. Then a listener text in to Kristal FM and asked where it is located! The funny thing is we do not know exactly the location where the Agro-Fruit Festival was held. So I sms back to DJ Dean and told him we are still finding it! Luckily there is a caller who knew where it was held. hehehe .. That really save our time from roaming around Tutong looking for it.

When we got in to Tutong town, there were many people flocking to the river side. We were wondering what is happening there and thought it might be boat race or something. We went down and YES, we were right, it was the boat racing final!

After spending almost an hour there, we then move to Pantai Seri Kenangan for the Agro-Fruit Festival. Quite a lot of people there too :) Didn't spent much time there but I did manage to get some keropok lekor :)

Accident at Limbang

From my previous post I did mentioned that my neighbour told me that there was an accident happen in Limbang. It was really sad to see and hear what had happen last Saturday where 3 Bruneian and 2 Singaporean who reside in Brunei died in a horrific accident in Limbang.

Yesterday, I heard from a friend saying that his colleague seen a video of the tragedy which was taken by someone. My friend describe to me that, it was sad to hear that the husband (injured Bruneian) kisses his wife on the face when the public pull her out from the wreckage. And I was told that while the body of the 2 injured females lied on the ground, a lady stranger came over and took off her jewelery and run off. Well, I told my friend that I won't believe it until I really see the video.

The next day I manage to get a copy of the video and I was really really shocked to see that what my friend told me was true! When I watch the video, I was kinda asking myself, who is that lady next to the injured woman. And I can't believe my eyes when I saw the lady taking off the jewelry off the injured woman and put it in her pocket!! Probably she didn't realise that someone is taking the video. Then she moved to the other injured woman and looking for jewelry! But instead, she took the injured man's mobile phone! It looks like that the injured man pass her the mobile knowing that she was trying to take off her jewelry!

I will not publish the video in here because of personal reason and respect to the men and women who have passed away. I did some screen capture from the video.

Self Accident??

This morning, on my way to work, I saw a car plunges over the road kerb. I can't see a second car involve in this accident though. Is it a hit and run? I don't know...Is it self accident?..I don't know..

So people, please do drive safely especially to those who like to show off their driving skills on the road.

My New Toy!

Had a wonderful time in Miri over the weekend. Went there with 2 other friends that I always go Miri with...well you can say Miri travel buddy! hehehe...

The journey to Miri was great. There was no queue at all..although there are still some other people who are so impatient and overtook us at the immigration.

After we checked in and leave our things in the hotel, we went out and look for a seafood restaurant. QUite surprise that there are few seafood restaurant in Miri. We went to a Halal seafood restaurant as my friends are Malay.

The food was really good. We ordered seafood taufu, clam and fish (kerapu) cook with Tom Yam. It took quite awhile for the food to arrive on our table but it's worth the wait. I would recommend it to anyone who likes seafood :)

The next day, our usual routine are shopping! I did manage to get a pair of trousers, shirt and few other stuffs! And later I went to the electronic shop and something really catches my eyes and it's really cheap! Without thinking much about it, I just took it and straight to the counter and pay for it! Here is the toy that I bought....

It was pouring cats and dogs when we were heading back to Brunei. Some motorist just don't care about their life while driving on a wet road! When I got home, my neighbour told me that there was an accident that happen in Limbang which took the lives of 3 Bruneian and 2 Singaporean who work for Ideal. And it was raining at that time when the accident happen. I haven't read the news yet but what I heard from my neighbour that the Singaporean was overtaking 6 cars in a row when the head collision happen!

So people, please do drive carefully especially during this wet weather.

Fireworks At Taman Jubilee

There will be few fireworks shooting up in Brunei sky for the next few weeks in conjunction with our beloved monarch 62nd Birthday.

Tonight, I went with few friends to see the fireworks at Taman Jubilee. I was very excited about it as this will be my first time taking photos of firework with my Canon 350D SLR Digital Camera. We went to the river side next to Concept Computer. At first I thought it will be just us there and after a while there were few cars driving towards where I park my car.

Here are some of the outcome of the photos that I took. I am quite happy with it although I thought it can be better than that. ^_^

Turn Back Time

I was browsing through my office computer and looking through the photos that I took during my trip to Sydney in April this year. And I come across few of the photos which I totally forgot to share with you.

The story is like this....

On my way back home from the airport, I was driving and talking with a colleague of mine who need me to send him home, I saw a flock of birds (don't know what it's call) flying from the Sg. Akar dump site. My colleague told me it's nothing new about it as he see it almost everyday. But what we find it interesting that day was, the birds were flying so low almost reaching the road. It was quite distracting and dangerous for motorist as they have to be careful not to knock the birds! One unique thing that I find it really interesting about this birds are that, they fly along the road as if they are driving on the road...hehehe... It will make a turn if there is a bend on the road! Amazing....Just look at the photos :)

Worst Sickness Of The Year

I was really sick for the past 2 days. It's been awhile since I have such sickness. I had headache, sore throat, block nose and tired.

I went to see my GP and was given 4 different medication! 1 bottle of cough syrup, 1 packet of cold tablet, 1 packet of antibiotic for my throat infection and 1 packet of tablet for my headache and not forgetting a day sick leave :)

Went home and took all the medicine and within 30 mins i can feel the medication kicking in cos I suddenly felt so sleepy and went straight to bed! I think if there is a burglar entered the house, I won't know a thing!

Woke up and still feel very louzy and tired. After 4 hours of my first medication, i took the medicine again...and again, i felt sleepy and went straight to bed! I wonder what causes that...then I realise it's the cough medicine that make me so sleepy! That's why I didn't take any cough syrup this morning! I don't want fall asleep infront of the computer when I'm at work...hehe..

I still have the cold and sore throat. The headache is almost gone! I dun mind the cold and sore throat, just don't like headache!

I hope I will be fine in the next few days ^_^

Under The Weather

I felt really lousy today. Having a block nose and headache! I just hate getting a cold cos it make me very hungry and I won't get full no matter how much i eat!

Went to La Mee this afternoon with a friend. I was accompany him looking for new furniture for his new office :) While waiting for my order to arrive, I manage to take a video of the chef doing the La Mee. Enjoy the video ^_^

Wow...What's wrong with me?? Why have I not update my blog? Getting bored of it? No stories?

Well, I have a very good reason for not updating my blog lately...the reason is that I have no reason for not updating my blog..hehehe.... I think purely cos I have no story to tell. Nothing much have happen to me lately beside having too many birthday invitation and weekend parties!! Getting bored of it already...and look at me!!..I have gain so much weight!

I have 2 more parties to attend this week. It's a theme party! One of the parties, we have to dress up as Skeleton! Where the HELL I can get a skeleton costume! Unless......I paint myself and look like a skeleton! What do you think?

The other party which will be on Saturday, we have to dress up as ROCKERS! Gosh..this is totally out from my personality..hehehe.. I will have to see what I can do to make myself look like a ROCKER!

My New Sink

I went for lunch with a friend yesterday at LLF at Serusop and later pass by this shop which sell so many nice stuffs. Then I came across this nice cute sink which I think it's good for my office. You might wonder why do i need a sink in my office? Well, it's not actually the sink you have in the toilet..hehe.. It's a miniature sink which u put on your office table for paper clips and it's magnetic too. Look at the photo below and you will know what I mean ^_^

Oh..I got it from UnderTen at Serusop. Only cost $2.90. It looks really cute on the table.

Eggxplode Me Not

Did you read the newspaper last week on La Mee Restaurant regarding their newly created dish?! After reading what was written in the newspaper, I feel so tempted to try it since La Mee is one of my favourite restaurants.

So I went to La Mee today for my lunch. The first thing the waitress did was introducing me about their Eggxplode dish and she say it is one of the most popular ordered dish. I ordered Eggxplode with chicken and have my favourite Tec C Special ^_^

When the food arrive, it look very interesting that I totally forgot to take a picture of it. But I can tell you my first comment when the food arrived.

"Hmmmm....it smells like rojak!"

Basically the chicken are warp with eggs and slices of cucumber and pineapples on top of it. I dig in and pieces of chicken inside it with some black sauce. Looks yummyy....but as I started to chew and my tastebuds starts to work very hard and sending signal to my brain..... I find the food really really disappointing!

The black sauce is a bit salty and they fried the chicken and stuffs inside the egg which doesn't make the dish taste good at all. It is plain and doesn't taste anything special. The presentation of the food is good but unfortunately the taste of the food doesn't get certified by my tastebuds.

My rate for the food is 4/10

Last weekend, me and my friends went to Miri for our occasional shopping spree :) The currency exchange was good. RM3.34 = B$1...but I heard it was RM3.39 a few days before that.

We stayed at Imperial Hotel and it was a really nice hotel! I will grade it 4/5 and the lack of 1 is due to the view! We have the view of their air cooler compressor for their hotel!! UGLY VIEW! Other than that..its perfect :)

On this trip I can't believe myself that I manage to get so many stuffs! On my last few trips, I hardly get anything except for buying unripe banana at E-Mart. I bought few nice shirts and trousers...but I do hope, I wont see anyone in Brunei wearing the same shirt! I have encountered few occasion that I saw people wearing the same short as mine! The most embarrassing moment was when me and my friends went for dinner at Dave's Deli and saw a guy wearing the same pattern shirt! That's why I prefer to buy my clothing outside Borneo Island :)

BUT the climax for that trip was I bought myself a new watch! It been awhile since I bought myself a watch! Due to the good exchange rate, the price for the watch is really good too :)

So that will be my watch for the next few years unless there are nice people out there who are willing to get me nice watch :) hehe

What Happen To The World ??!

Did you realise that the weather is getting weird lately?

I'm not talking about Brunei itself but also country like Myanmar which suffer a massive lost of live (past 22,000) due to Cyclone Nargis. And now China experience earthquake with magnitude of 7.8 which hit few provinces and lost over 10,000 lives!

On 11 May 2008, Brunei did experience a strong gale wind that hit most part of Brunei and causes lots of damages to houses, signboard and cars! My friend who live in Menglait sms me and say that there is a sudden strong wind and rain! After a min or so, it happen at my parents' place in Muara! The sky suddenly turn dark and you can see the trees swaying vigorously and leaves flying all over the place! I manage to take a short clip when it happen....

Kota Kinabalu 25-27 April 2008

Sometime you never realise how the time just passes by without you realising it. It's been over a week now since I was having my holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The last time when I was there was in February and we went there by plane. On this trip, we went there by car :) and I was driving! There was 7 of us and just imagine we have to squeeze in the car! Good thing I was the driver..hehe...We left BSB at 8am and reach KK around 2pm. Lots of nice scenery along the way.

When we reach at Beaufort, the weather was really bad! It was pouring with rain and strong wind! It was kinda scary to see the steel frame advertising board was swaying! As we reach our hotel, Marina Court, the wind was so strong that I can see people struggling to walk..hehe

We spend most of the afternoon in the apartment. The rain didn't stop until 10pm! Centrepoint was so near to our apartment but we have no choice but to drive there! Went Karaoke after that then clubbing ^_^

The next day we went to one of the popular island in KK, Pulau Manukan. It's took about 20mins by boat from the jetty near to the Police station..i think. It cost RM26 for a return trip and you can hire snorkling equipment there too. The first thing we do as we arrive, was to get the best shady place! hehehe...The next thing was definitely jumping into the water and see some fish! There were 7 of us and only 2 of us can swim! So we ask the rest to hire a life jacket and jump into the water! The deepest was only until my neck level. Manage to snaps some photos there.

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't see many fish in the water compare to Pulau Sapi. I can remember that I was attacked by a small black and white fish when I was in Pulau Sapi few years back. I think I must have disturb their breeding area and the fish keep on biting on my leg. I swim off and it keep attacking me! Then I realise that my leg was bleeding from the bite!!

At night we went clubbing again but this time it wasn't fun at all! The club was totally packed and there was no room to dance! But there were lots to see though. We could see people jumping off the stage and the people below it catches them! And we also saw a fight in the club! I think someone disturbs someone's gf and wasn't happy about it! All I can say is, it was not the local that got into the fight..tsk..tsk..tsk...Not good!

The next morning, we spend a bit of time at the market and then head back to Brunei! It was a pleasant drive until one of our tyre burst! Good thing I didn't drive too fast and also good thing we have a spare tyre! We reach Brunei around 9pm! We were stuck in the queue at Kuala Lurah for almost 2 hours and was so pissed off with those who overtook us!

Overall, it was a great trip and wanted to go back there soon and discover other part of Kota Kinabalu :)

Trip To Sydney from 12-17 April 2008

Compare to the past 3 trips to Sydney that I had, I enjoyed this trip the most cos I managed to go for a proper tour rather than walking around at the city centre.

I went to Sydney with a colleague of mine for our Negotiating Training! Feel kinda insulted when they wanted me to go for this course. Negotiating...who doesn't know how to negotiate! We are asian..we are good at it...hehe...

But after the training..YES I AM REALLY BAD IN NEGOTIATING! hehe...

Arrived Sydney on 12 April 2008 at about 10am Sydney time. Check in to Urban St. Leonard Hotel and rested for awhile. At about 2pm, we decide to go for the city tour using the Hop On & Hop Off Bus. It cost us A$30 which include Bondi Tour and City Tour. We can hop on to the tour bus at any time within the 24 hrs. It was a nice sunny day although the breeze is a bit cold. First, we took the City Tour Bus. We passes by few interesting places which you can see from the pictures I snap. The tour lasted for over 1 hr. Then we hop on to the Bondi Tour. This is the most interesting tour. They bring us around most entertainment area like the casino, sydney opera house and also Bondi Beach. After passing by Bondi Beach, my colleague and I decide to go there tomorrow and spend few hours at the beach.

The weather looks fine on Sunday morning. We took the 10am Hop On & Hop Off Bus to Bondi beach. Along the trip there, the weather started to change. The sky turn dark! Suddenly I see lightning everywhere. What make it worst is that, the bus that I am on is an open top bus! The rain just keep pouring and all of us have to go down to the ground floor to take shelter! Imagine the temperature of the rain! We were really pissed off with this!

So me and colleague decide to spend our time at the Casino, Sky City!! Spend the whole afternoon and part of the evening gambling..hehe..quite fun though. I didn't even realise the time after enjoying myself wasting money on the slot machine! Lost A$20 though.

Monday till Wednesday is basically training training training and finish quite late. By the end of the day, I was drained!

I flew back to Brunei on Thursday. You can see the pictures I took during my trip in sydney here

Water Village Tour

I had a wonderful water village tour last Saturday with our company guest from Melbourne. I always thought to myself, is there any interesting place in Brunei that I can bring my visitor to visit.

I only realise that Brunei have so many wonderful places to visit ever since I brought one of my friends from Kuching who have never step foot in Brunei. First thing came to my mine, where can I bring him? I suddenly thought of the Royal Regalia which I have not visited for over 10 years now. We went there and was so amazed of the collection and history of the Royal Families. Then later, i brought him to Brunei Museum in Kota Batu. That was a disappointment. Went there and the air conditioner wasn't working. Apparently, the air-con have not been working for few months! We didn't stay long there cos it was too hot. Then drove him along Jalan kota Batu and then later stop at one of the malay restaurant in Kiulap to try Ambuyat! I was surprised that he really enjoy it... hehe...That was in December 2007.

Last Saturday, I did the same thing to my Melbourne guest (Lisa). Brought her for lunch at Portview and later walk to the Royal Regalia. I have become a tourist in my own country and also her tour guide for that day..nice isn't it?! It was kinda embarrassing though when I mistaken the Secretariat Office as the post office..hehe..

After the Royal Regalia, we walk back to Portview where we catch the boat that we have booked for our water village tour. The tour guide was just a teenager and he can answer the questions that Lisa asked about the water village and wild life. While Lisa busy asking questions to the tour guide, I was busy snapping photos. It was nice to see a closer view of the Istana, although it was just the roof and dome.

The boat driver then brought us to a place where most of the wildlife can be seen. The tour guide will point to us if he see any wild life. The first wildlife we saw was the Proboscis monkey! Good thing I brought my Canon SLR camera with Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM. I managed to catch quite a close up of the monkey. I totally forgot to bring my binocular otherwise Lisa could have seen the monkey easily. We stayed there for few minutes and we were told that the Proboscis monkey have a shy character unlike those common monkey where it will attack us! hehe... We then move on with the boat ride and we saw monitor lizards and snakes. I was hoping to see the crocodiles but it never appear. Lisa wasn't that excited about crocodiles though.

Towards the end of our wild life tour, we managed to see the Proboscis monkey in a closer view. They were in fact wondering outside someone backyard. We went down from the boat and I managed to snap some close up of the monkey. I always wanted to see a Proboscis monkey and finally saw one and also manage to snap some picture of it.

After we had enough of the monkey, we then head back to the water village and we were brought to the tour guide's house to have a look of a typical water village house. Lisa was really amazed with the house and wondering how they managed to keep the house so clean. The tour guide showed us around the house and also their 'Garage'. Think about it, how can a water village have a garage? Apparently, the garage is just below the house. There is a small door on the floor and lead us to where they park their boat :)

Just before we visited one of the most favourite part of the house, there were about a dozen of tourist from Korea and Japan touring the house. So being curious, I asked the tour guide if their house always been visited by tourist. He told us that, their house have been visited by tourist for the past 9 years and recently they were on the local news. The most tourist they get in a day is 700 people! Imagine how tiring that can be!

Lisa being Lisa, she mingle around with the Japanese and Korean tourist. They are a bit cheeky and humourous by saying they are still single and wonder if Lisa want to marry them! We just laughed. After the tourist left, we head to the last place of the house where Lisa really can't wait to have a look at it! Look at the picture ^_^

I told her that if she is lucky, she will be able to see the human waste product eaten by the fish "Bedukang".

Ching Ming or Grave Sweeping Day

I'm sure some of you might not know what Ching Ming is all about. Here is a brief history of Ching Ming that I picked from here.

Ching Ming Festival is one of the 24 segments in the Chinese Calendar. It normally falls on the 4^th or 5^th of April because it's depended on the Cold Food Day (105 days after previous year's winter solstice). In the old days, Ching Ming was celebrated 3 days after the Cold Food Day but Cold Food Day was shorted to one day and then abandoned. So nowadays, Ching Ming and Cold Food Day fall on the same day although no one celebrate Cold Food Day any more. Ching Ming is also known as "Remembrance of Ancestors Day" or 'Grave Sweeping Day'. This year it falls on 4^th April.

The date is indicated on the Chinese calendar with the two characters: ching, meaning pure or clean, and ming, meaning brightness. The Ching Ming observance may have had its beginnings as the original religion in China. Ancestor worship is the only native religion to China. All others, including, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, were imported from outside of China. Confucianism and Taoism originated in China but are philosophies rather than religions. In the philosophy of Confucianism, a form of ancestor worship is incorporated with the virtue of filial piety.

We actually went to clean the graveyard last Sunday as it was the best time for most of us and it's our off day from work. I went there with my parents at around 7ish am! Don't want to go there quite late cos it can get really really hot! As we arrived, there already many people there! Look at the cars that are parked!

Just like every other year, my uncles and aunties will be there too. In this modern day, there is not much needs to weed the area as most of it is made of concrete. Other than that, we do clean the headstone, and replacing the wilted flowers with fresh ones, and also the lighting of incense and burning of imitation paper money.

The burning of the imitation money is for the deceased to use in the afterlife. And also not forgetting burning imitation cigarette, Versace shirt, shoes and even a house ^_^

In addition, food is laid out in front of the headstone as an offering to the spirits of the deceased. The food that we offer are a steamed whole chicken (including the head, which is later twisted off), cut roast pork with crunchy skin attached, and some other food that you can see in the picture. In addition, three Chinese wine cups are arranged above the food.

The head of the household usually begins by bowing three times with the wine cup in hand, then pouring the wine on the ground just in front of the headstone. This procedure is usually repeated three times. Each member of the family comes in front of the headstone pray with the joss sticks. I did see some families eat the food together there at the grave site, similar to having a picnic with their deceased relatives. It is said to bring good luck to eat the food that was offered to the deceased.

Position (Feng Shui) of the grave is really important for the decease so they can have a good view from where they are buried. Seriously, the view from the here is really beautiful. Too bad I didn't bring my proper camera..hehe

After we finish, we went to Teo Chew Restaurant to have our breakfast. And it's nice to gather around with my uncle, aunties and cousins since we rarely meet.

Tonight, I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry.

On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too." When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched T.V.; he seemed distant and absent.

Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I wanted to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

How Can You Make A Difference?

Have you been to Gadong Mall lately? Do you know that they have World Water Day Exhibition there? So if you haven't been there, please do go there now! Bring your children there! There are prizes to be won!

Anyway, I was there manning our booth on Sunday morning and surprisingly there are many people flocking to the exhibition despite the opening of Giant at Tasek Rimba. Manning the booth can be fun at times when you can see all walks of life at the mall! The boring time was when you get bored of looking at the same people passing by the booth..hehe..., so I decide to walk around and the first thing that caught my eyes was the pole wrap with a PVC material which look like the picture below, so that the public can write their pledge...A creative idea...don't you think so?

I look around the pole and giggle while reading some of the message that was written. There are few good pledges and lots of weird pledges!! Let me show you the good pledge first ^_^

Now the weird and cruel bit...

There are more to it but I have to censored it..hehe...

Beside all that, there were drawing exhibition too. FYI, I am the type of person who are amazed with small little things. The drawings that were displayed really amazed me. They are the drawings from our young and the future generation who will bring good name to our country and their family! I wish I can draw as good as them. Here are some of the drawings...

The exhibition will be open to public until 26 March 2008. Some of the booths might not be manned at night but please feel free to wander around. If you find any freebies on the table, just grab it ^_^

I was driving along the highway along the airport (don't know what's the highway name) going to Menglait to send off an invoice to our client.

Nak di jadikan cerita..ada tia seorang lelaki disiring jalan menahan bas atu..kan tumpang lah tu....jadi bas atu pun beranti lah... Tiba tiba ada tia 6 orang perompak keluar nak merompak bas atu...

Perompak atu berkata..

" Keluarkan dan bagi semua amas-amasan yang kamu ada ah..!!LAJU..!!"

" ..tapi..kami ani mana ada bawa amas-amasan kalau kan kerja..usin inda banyak..."

Confused Saturday Night

Last night we went to Berry Wan Hotpot and the place was fully packed. And lucky enough we have booked a table for 6 in advance. So we went in and asked for our seat. The waiter told us that our seat have been taken. I was so furious when I heard that! All my friends are from KB and it is quite frustrating for them! Later we were told by the owner that the seat was booked for us but there was one family that didn't bother to listen to the waiter and sat down. That even make me more angrier! Don't this family understand the word "reserved" or even "booked"? This are one of the most annoying people that we can find in Brunei!

We waited outside the restaurant and I just stared at that family who took our table and hoping it will make them uncomfortable eating....but Noooooo...they even enjoy it more! We waited for 30mins for another customer to leave the restaurant. The owner was apologetic but we never blame them.

Anyway, forget about the drama above..let's talk about the food. When I first look at the choice of the foods at the counter, I was amazed with it. We had chicken soup and tom yam soup for our hotpot :) We put as much as we can in the pot and the food taste so good :) I feel so blotted after we finish all the food in the pot otherwise we will get charged $5.00 for 100g of wastage food. hehe..

Now I know why this place is so popular and required to book a table before you go there. I would recommend you to have a try to this restaurant. Book early and be there early if possible before someone irresponsible take over your seat!

After dinner, we went to SQC to catch a movie. It's been awhile since I have been to the cinema and this is my first time to SQC. My friends from KB wanted to watch 10,000 BC. I have seen the movie trailer and look quite interesting. We watched the 22:30 movie.

I was quite confused with the movie. What is the motive of the movie? What does it have to do with the title of the movie? As far as I can understand is that a primitive man who keep his promise to the girl that she love since at young age. And when they grew up, they still love each other and one day the girl that he loved was kidnapped by their rival. So this man is trying to save his gf and walk from one end of the other end to find the gf. At the end of the story, he manage to save the gf but was killed later by the guy who kidnapped her and back to life again. hehehe...And at the end of the story the couple kiss so passionately....I wonder to myself, does people at that time kiss like that? hehe...

Went for body massage at Pearl last night where I totally doze off and start snoring! How embarassing..hehe

Wow...after listing that, I feel like a computer geek!! Seriously I'm not! lol

I had lunch at d Other Office with a friend of mine. As always, I will ask my friend to miscall me when he arrived to the restaurant. Got there and my friend was asking me

"What's wrong with your phone kan?"

I was blur blur and answered

"OK jua bah"

Then he say..

"Balik balik ku call but can't get through!"

What's wrong with DST for this past few days? Is everything ok, DST? I was trying to surf the internet using my phone and have problem getting into it. While deciding what to order...a sms came in and it was from my friend who sends the sms like 10mins ago! hehe

Anyway, my friend told me that the two customers that were sitting next to the windows weren't happy and left the restaurant. Apparently, they have order their food like an hour ago and nothing arrived on their table. Hmmmm....not good eh....

Don't you feel that the weather is hot? For me it is, so I decide to get Ice Tea which comes with my Lontong Special. Really refreshing....

Then came a customer sitting on the same table of the frustrated customers who have just left. This person looks really familiar....hmmm.... and as he turn his back on me and saw his shirt, no doubt he is .......

Then later, came another guy into the restaurant and he is no other than ......

I was a bit disappointed with the food today. The Lontong Special that we ordered was not hot. It's warm and close to cold already. We were wondering if that's the food that the frustrated customers ordered and later serve it to us! hmmmm....but don't think they will do that...I hope

Banana Fritters

Look yummy isn't it? I shouldn't have post this early in the morning! Making me hungry now :(

Anyway, the reason why I posted that picture is because of a forward email from a colleague of mine. This happen in few states in West Malaysia. I'm not sure how true it is, but you might think twice of buying banana fritters now...hehe...

"This is a TRUE STORY ... and also Saw Loon told me it happened to her place at Kedah ..Tunjang..I think..

It happened in PERLIS ( Titi Chai Kangar, the pasar malam area where PISANG GORENG (Banana Fritters) are sold in the afternoon)

Mom said, my uncle saw the PISANG GORENG hawker added plastic straw ( drinking straw ) into hot oil and leave it to melt before he fried the banana, that is why PISANG GORENG, UBI, etc stay crispy for hours....

My uncle asked the hawker and he kept quite. When my uncle told my mom, they realized that this is how fried fritters stay crispy for a while. My mom said that in Thailand they do the same to keep the fried food crispy eg: ikan bilis, fried onions, etc which will stay crispy although it is left in the open air for hours.

Here's another one:

I was with my family in Cameron Highlands. It was 3 pm and we were hanging around a market area. We saw many hawker stalls, suddenly something attracted my attention at one of the stalls. There was a big wok of boiling oil with a half-5-litre empty oil bottle in it. The plastic bottle melted slowly in the hot oil.

At first I thought it was an unintentional act by a 7-yr-old girl but when I looked closely, I saw she was holding a pair of chopsticks and stir the bottle. It appears the act was intentional. Oh My God, these people are using melted plastic to fry food. so that the tit bits will not go soft when it cooled due to plastic.
